President Nikolic invites president Putin to Belgrade liberation anniversary
BELGRADE - Serbian President Tomislav Nikolic will send an official invitation to Russian President Vladimir Putin to a ceremony scheduled for October 20 marking the 70th anniversary of the liberation of Belgrade in World War II, Tanjug learned at the president's office.
The invitation will be handed to Russia's Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov on Tuesday.
Lavrov arrived on a two-day visit to Serbia on Monday.
The Russian president visited Belgrade on two occasions: in 2001 when he met with then president of the Federal Republic of Yugoslavia Vojislav Kostunica, and late in March 2011 in the capacity of the Russian prime minister when he conferred with Serbia's top officials primarily on the energy cooperation between Serbia and Russia.
