BELGRADE – Serbian President Tomislav Nikolic has said at the graduation ceremony for the male and female cadets of the 136th class of the Military Academy and of the 1st class of the Medical Faculty of the Military and Medical Academy (VMA) that the Serbian military would remain a strong and resolute guarantor for the protection of national interests.

Nikolic told the junior military officers that they should endeavor to make Serbia a better place than it had been when they inherited it, for the thriving of the coming generations.

Speaking at the ceremony that was held in front of the National Assembly House in Belgrade on Saturday, Nikolic also said that the Serbian Armed Forces (VS) deservedly enjoyed great trust of the citizens, as could be seen from the fact that the military profession was one of the most popular choices with the young people of Serbia.

“Members of the military will stand against any kind of threats to security and freedom of the citizens. Aware of the security challenges facing us today, the armed forces will be maintaining and improving their level of preparedness so as to be able to use the military power that is in their hands to successfully complete missions and tasks they are mandated with,” said the Serbian president.

Speaking about participation of Serbia's military personnel in peacekeeping missions, Nikolic said that through cooperation with other countries’ armies in the global peacemaking process, the VS was making an unselfish contribution to global peace, fortifying Serbia’s credibility in international relations.
