President Nikolic with the outgoing Ambassador of Vietnam
Belgrade, 7 October 2015- “Serbia has undergone a difficult period riddled with crises, when it neglected the relations with its traditional friends such as Vietnam. Luckily enough, this period is now water under the bridge, and I am very pleased to note that our cooperation is on the rise again. Nevertheless, we can always do even better than that”, President of the Republic of Serbia Tomislav Nikolic said in his conversation with the outgoing Ambassador of Vietnam, Tran Xuan Thuy.
The President of Serbia and the Ambassador of Vietnam expressed their pleasure at the fact that the volume of trading cooperation had rocketed over the past three years, from USD 93 million in 2012, to almost USD 545 million late in 2014.
Ambassador Tran Xuan Thuy stressed that Vietnam firmly adhered to the position of non-recognition of the unilaterally declared independence of Kosovo and Metohija. He voiced his hope that the official visit of the Serbian President to Vietnam will take place as early as next year, to indicate, once again, the closeness between our two countries.
President Nikolic acquainted Vietnamese Ambassador with the problems that might be brought about should the so-called “Republic of Kosovo” be admitted to UNESCO, and in this regard, asked the Ambassador that the Government and the President of Vietnam lend their attention to the interests of the Republic of Serbia.
