President Putin invited president Nikolic to visit Russia

Belgrade, 10 November 2015- President of the Russian Federation Vladimir Putin extended his greetings to the President of the Republic of Serbia, Mr. Tomislav Nikolic, and his invitation to visit Russia in the near future, Ambassador of the Russian Federation in Belgrade Alexander Chepurin said in his meeting with the President of Serbia.

Details of President Nikolic’s visit to Russia will be worked out early in December 2015, during the visit of Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation Sergey Lavrov to Belgrade.

President Nikolic conveyed his gratitude to Ambassador Chepurin for the fact that Russia proved, once again, its sincere friendship and alliance with Serbia, by voting yesterday against UNESCO membership of the so-called “Republic of Kosovo” at the UNESCO General Conference. President Nikolic pointed in particular to the absurd situation and a precedent that would be created had the so-called “Kosovo”, which did not receive international recognition, become a member of this Organization, and stressed how good it was that this admission was denied, for it would have resulted in new divisions and opened the door to full politicization of UNESCO.

The President of the Republic of Serbia and the Ambassador of the Russian Federation also agreed on the details of the visit to be made by Ms. Lubov Nikolaevna Glebova, Head of Rossotrudnichestvo and Russia’s coordinator for interior wall-painting of Saint Sava’s Church in Belgrade.
