The Inauguration of the President of the Republic 2008

The again selected President of the Republic, Boris Tadić, took the oath of office on February 15th, 2008 before the members of the Parliament of the Republic of Serbia, which began his five year mandate.

Tadić took the oath by reading and signing the text of the oath which has been established by the new Constitution of Serbia, followed by the playing of the hymn “Bože Pravde" (God of Justice).

The text of the oath which the President read is as follows: "I swear that I will dedicate all of my power to protecting the sovereignty and the entirety of the territory of the Republic of Serbia including Kosovo and Metohia as an integral part, as well as protecting human and minority rights and freedoms, respecting and defending the Constitution and laws, protecting peace and the well-being of all citizens of the Republic of Serbia and I will conscientiously and responsibly fulfill all of my duties”.

After taking the oath Tadić highlighted that he will never give up on the fight for Kosovo and Metohia as well as the European path for Serbia.

He highlighted that the task of all governmental institutions is to work at full capacity on the defense of the interests of the citizens of Serbia, economic progress of the country, European perspectives and protecting the sovereignty and integrity of Serbia.

“The citizens are right to expect us to work for their benefit and that is why they have chosen us. The citizens have established a goal with their selection. It is important that we achieve unity, but unity is not the goal itself, the goal is the program that the citizens voted for, and they voted for Serbia to be strong and stable, economically prosperous, a respected country, a member of the EU”, said Tadić.

The formal gathering in the chambers of the Parliament saw the attendance of a large number of officials, among whom were Prime Minister Vojislav Koštunica, President of the Parliament Oliver Dulić, ministers, parliament members, representatives of the church and religious communities, diplomats and many others.
