Republic of Serbia
The Republic of Serbia is a democratic state based on the rule of law and social justice, principles of civil democracy, human and minority rights and freedoms and adherence to European principles and values.
Serbia pronounced its independence on June 5, 2006, as the international legal successor to the State Union of Serbia-Montenegro.
The Constitution of the Republic of Serbia came into effect on November 8th, 2006.
The national anthem of the Republic of Serbia is "Bože Pravde" (Lord, Give Us Justice). The coat-of-arms of Serbia is the two-headed white eagle on a semi-circular red shield, with a crown above the shield and a small shield on the eagle's breast with a white cross and four tinders. The national flag is the red-blue-white three-coloured flag, with a small coat-of-arms of the Republic of Serbia. Statehood Day of the Republic of Serbia is February 15th.
The head of state is the President of the Republic of Serbia, elected at direct elections for a five-year term. President Boris Tadić took office on July 11th, 2004.
The legislative body is the Serbian Parliament, which has 250 seats. The Serbian Parliament votes in the Serbian Government and its prime minister.
The highest judicial bodies of the state are the Constitutional Court of Serbia and the Supreme Court of Serbia.
Serbia has two autonomous provinces: Vojvodina and Kosovo and Metohija (as of 1999 under the administrative rule of the United Nations).
The capital of Serbia is Belgrade.
