President Nikolic patron of ICS Congress
BELGRADE - Serbian President Tomislav Nikolic conferred with the delegation of the International Committee of Slavists (ICS) to mark Serbia's four-year presidency in the science organization which will be crowned by the 16th International Congress of Slavists in Belgrade in 2018.
Welcoming Slavic experts from some ten countries, Nikolic said on Friday that he is honored to be the patron of the forthcoming International Congress of Slavists, noting that understanding for each other and helping each other can be achieved only by respecting and observing history and tradition.
This is an opportunity for you to see that Belgrade is a metropolis and that Serbs are a hospitable nation, to learn more about Serbia's tradition and compare it to your own, Nikolic said addressing the delegation.
He noted that Serbia's chair in ICS would contribute to better ties between Slavic countries and scientific institutions.
The chair in ICS was granted to Serbia at the 15th International Congress of Slavists in Minsk and speaking on behalf of Belarus as the previous chair in the organization, Alexander Lukashanets expressed gratitude to Nikolic.
Lukashanets presented Nikolic with the photo album from the International Congress of Slavists held in Minsk last year and a decree whereby Serbia was granted chairmanship in ICS.
ICS President Bosko Suvajdzic said that the Belgrade congress will be the crown of the Slavic science and that Serbia will be a center of Slavic scientific research in the next four years.
