President Nikolic with spouse welcomed the Prince of Wales and Duchess of Cornwall
Belgrade – President of the Republic of Serbia Tomislav Nikolic met today with the Prince of Wales, Charles and the Duchess of Cornwall, Camilla.
In a cordial and friendly atmosphere President Nikolic and Prince Charles discussed the longstanding alliance between the two countries, forged in two world wars, the current situation in Europe and relations between former Yugoslav republics. Prince Charles was interested in a visit of President Nikolic to Moscow.
Shortly before the meeting, Prince Charles showed interest in the permanent collection of the exhibition "The dawn of the Renaissance", which is located in the lobby of the building on Andricev Venac.
President Nikolic gifted their Royal Highnesses, Prince of Wales and Duchess of Cornwall, the Cyrillic edition of William Shakespeare’s Collected works in one book on biblical paper, including works that have not been published, with a dedication: ”One of the world's greatest writers translated into one of the world's most beautiful languages“, as well as photo monograph in English ”Christian heritage of Kosovo and Metohija“, with a dedication: ”This is only Serbian in Kosovo and Metohija. Is and will be! To Prince Charles, with respect Tomislav Nikolic“.
Historically speaking, this is the first visit to Serbia by an heir to the throne of the British Crown. The Prince of Wales visited Belgrade in 1978 last time.
