Serbia renews old friendships

BELGRADE/ABU DHABI - Serbian President Tomislav Nikolic conferred on Sunday in Abu Dhabi with Managing Director of the LuLu Group Yusuff Ali, who voiced interest in including Serbian food products in the offer of the UAE's leading hypermarket chain.

Nikolic stressed that the traditional friendship between Serbia and the UAE secures a stable and certain future of their economic relations, the Serbian president's media cooperation office said in a release.

Serbia has a long tradition of food production, said Nikolic. “Our food products are of excellent quality and healthy,” the president stressed, adding that Serbian producers in cooperation with scientific institutes are able to provide top quality foods.

He suggested considering the possibility of LuLu Hypermarket investing in the production of foodstuffs requested by its customers, and invited Ali to visit Serbia and see for himself that it is the right place for food production.

Ali said that he would like to see Serbian food products, primarily fruit and vegetables, in his retail outlets.

LuLu Hypermarket is a retail chain of the multinational LuLu Group International and a company that sets the standards of retail in the region. With over 110 retail and wholesale stores, it enjoys great popularity among buyers across the UAE.

Nikolic meets with Energoprojekt officials in UAE

Nikolic is on a two-day visit to the United Arab Emirates (UAE) where he met with the CEOs of branch offices of the Serbian company Energoprojekt on Sunday.

In a meeting with Energoprojekt officials Nedeljko Magazin and Vladimir Milosevic, Nikolic said he is pleased with the company's business results in the Gulf, the Serbian president's media cooperation office said in a release.

Nikolic commended the professionalism of Energoprojekt experts and employees stressing that they continue to work in UAE because they work well and honor the terms of the contract, which is what their partners appreciate.

Energoprojekt officials informed the Serbian president about the ongoing projects in Abu Dhabi and Dubai, and about the numerous challenges they are facing.

Considering that Energoprojekt is engaged in major infrastructure projects of the UAE government, we need to keep up with the technological advancements and make sure that the construction deadlines are met, said Magazin.

He noted that the value of works completed by Energoprojekt in the course of three years reaches around EUR 100 million.

Nikolic visits Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque in Abu Dhabi

Nikolic visited on Sunday in Abu Dhabi one of the largest mosques in the world, Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque, the Serbian president's media cooperation office said.
"At the monument of a great emotional and moral value for the people of UAE and its rulers, there is a feeling of deep respect for the vision of HH Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan, father of the nation who led his people wisely,” the Serbian president wrote in the guest book.

"In the time when the relations between the Republic of Serbia and the United Arab Emirates are on an upward trend, we can only express hope and faith that the friendship between our nations will continue and grow in accordance with the rise and prosperity of the two countries,” Nikolic underlined.

Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque is the largest mosque in the UAE and the eighth largest mosque in the world. It was officially opened in 2007 during the month of Ramadan.

The mosque can accommodate 40,000 worshippers, with the main prayer hall large enough to accommodate around 9,000 people.

It was named after Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan, founder and first president of the UAE, who was laid to rest there.
