Letter of congratulations to the new European Commission

President of the Republic of Serbia Aleksandar Vučić conveyed the congratulations to H.E. Madam Ursula von der Leyen, President of the European Commission, H.E. Mr. Josep Borrell High Representative/ Vice-President for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, H.E. Mr. Olivér Várhelyi, Commissioner for the Neighborhood and Enlargement, as well as other European commissioners, which reads as follows:

“Allow me to congratulate you on the trust that you have been given today by the Members of the European Parliament and to wish you much success in your work.

I am convinced that during the five-year term you will defend the interests of the European Union with your vast experience and promote the values it rests upon. I am likewise convinced that you will resort to new ideas in order to successfully respond to the challenges the European Union of today is facing and that you will fight for it to become even better place for living.

The EU membership is a strategic goal for Serbia, and as a candidate country, we will always be a reliable partner in achieving common goals. Even though we know how long and difficult the path to membership is, we hope that our European path is realistic and achievable and we will work hard on making Serbia an organized and successful country. That is why it made us happy when you announced that you would support firm relations and strong cooperation with the Western Balkans because the existence of the European perspective is a strong incentive to our reform efforts in the society and economy. Therefore, I hope that you will adequately evaluate our reforms and that, during your term and with your help and support but also criticism, Serbia will become a country that you will gladly see as an equal Member of the European Union.

At the same time, by promoting the policy of peace and cooperation, Serbia will keep fighting for the stability in the Western Balkans which is the basis for economic and any other progress of the region”, reads the congratulation of President Vučić.
