Meeting with the Ambassador of the United Kingdom

President of the Republic of Serbia Aleksandar Vučić met earlier today with the Ambassador of the United Kingdom Sian MacLeod, to discuss the results of the fight against the infectious disease COVID-19 in both countries.

President Vučić and Ambassador MacLeod agreed that the health of the people of Serbia and the United Kingdom and international cooperation represent priorities for the authorities of the two countries. They expressed hope that the current alarming situation with this infectious disease, will soon be overcome with solidarity so that Serbia and the United Kingdom can commit to the goals of social and economic development. 
 
President Vučić was interested in the results of British experts in the development of the vaccine against the coronavirus and expressed satisfaction with their progress.
 
Ambassador MacLeod emphasized the importance of including Serbia in the COVAX system, as a system of global response to the COVID-19 challenge, which provides the possibility of the fastest, fairest and easiest procurement of the vaccine, when it is available.
 
President Vučić reiterated Serbia's commitment to strengthening the political dialogue with the United Kingdom at the highest level, which would contribute to enhancing cooperation between the two countries in various areas of common interest, including the economy and defence. He also expressed the need to strengthen cooperation within international organizations, given that both Serbia and the United Kingdom are sincerely committed to the principles of multilateralism.
 
Ambassador MacLeod said that the Government in London also intends to strengthen economic, especially trade cooperation between the two countries, expecting that the circumstances will allow the visit of the line minister to Serbia soon.
 
Ambassador MacLeod conveyed Prime Minister Johnson's invitation to President Vučić to participate in the online Summit on Climate and Climate Change, which he is organizing in December together with the UN Secretary-General, the President of France, the President of Chile and the Prime Minister of Italy.
 
She emphasized that the United Kingdom and Prime Minister Johnson attach great importance to the issue of environmental protection, expressing hope that Serbia will be able to participate in reducing carbon dioxide emissions, to contribute to building a "green economy" and achieving other goals.
