Meeting with the Prime Minister of the Czech Republic

President of the Republic of Serbia Aleksandar Vučić met today with the Prime Minister of the Czech Republic, Andrej Babiš, with whom he discussed the situation related to the fight against the COVID-19 pandemic, bilateral relations, Serbia's European path and the regional situation.

The President of the Republic of Serbia Aleksandar Vučić thanked Prime Minister Babiš for his visit and particularly emphasised the support of our country to the Czech Republic in the fight against the coronavirus.

"We express our support and sincere hope that the Czech Republic will succeed in overcoming the health challenges caused by the COVID-19 infectious disease pandemic and that it will cope with all the consequences of this disease. I believe that the Czech Republic, as well as the world in general, will soon return to normal life and economic flows," said President Vučić, adding that he expects that in the coming period EU priorities will be focused on economic recovery, and that great attention will be paid to the activities in the field of health care.

President Vučić also expressed the expectation that the EU, despite the challenges we all face, will continue to implement the enlargement policy actively and that we will receive confirmation that there is a strong commitment of the EU to continue to deepen cooperation with our region.

"We highly appreciate the Czech Republic's continued support for accelerating the European integration process of the Republic of Serbia, both bilaterally and within V4, and we expect the Czech Republic to continue to exert its influence within the EU so that our reform efforts get adequately valorised," the President reiterated, adding that full EU membership represents the strategic foreign policy goal of our country.
The President added that Serbia remains fully committed to the reform process and European integration with the clear goal of full membership in the EU.

President Vučić and Prime Minister Babiš agreed that further strengthening of bilateral relations, which are traditionally good and friendly, without open issues and maintaining the intensity of meetings at the highest and high political levels, should remain a priority in further work.

"Serbia wants to intensify its economic relations with the Czech Republic, including a further increase in trade exchange. We believe that despite the achieved result of foreign trade exchange between Serbia and the Czech Republic that reached almost 1.2 billion euros in 2020, we should continue to support further the improvement of economic cooperation and a greater inflow of Czech investments in our country," said President Vučić, adding that in 2020 the volume of foreign trade with the Czech Republic was 1.16 billion euros and that this country was our 11th foreign trade partner last year.

The Prime Minister of the Czech Republic, Andrej Babiš, expressed his satisfaction with his visit to Serbia and emphasised that Serbia has shown seriousness and responsibility in the fight against the COVID-19 pandemic, thus setting an example to many countries in Europe and the world.

He particularly emphasised the traditionally good relations between Serbia and the Czech Republic, characterised by historical connection and traditional friendship, Slavic closeness and affinity between the two peoples, and the solidarity we have shown in critical historical moments.
