President Vučić receives accreditation letter from the newly appointed Ambassador of the Republic of Slovenia
President of the Republic of Serbia Aleksandar Vučić received the credentials of the new Ambassador of the Republic of Slovenia, Damjan Bergant, and welcomed him, hoping that during his diplomatic post in Belgrade he would successfully contribute to the development of relations between the two countries.
President Vučić said that in the past period, a significant impetus was given to bilateral relations, along with the intensified political dialogue and economic cooperation between Serbia and Slovenia, with the hope of increasing investments on both sides as well as the trade exchange. The two interlocutors agreed that joint sessions of the two countries governments also played a part in this. Expressing President Pahor's greetings, Ambassador Bergant said that he hoped the circumstances would soon allow the exchange of visits at the highest level to continue, given that the President and the then Prime Minister of Slovenia visited Serbia last year, which contributed to bilateral relations reaching a higher level.
President Vučić also emphasised the importance of Slovenia's strong engagement in regional issues within the Brdo-Brioni process, as well as the Berlin process, which contributes to peace and stability in the Western Balkans, which is also a priority for Serbia. In that context, he said that he was pleased with the invitation of Prime Minister Janez Janša to participate in the Bled Strategic Forum at the end of this month, to discuss various global challenges with colleagues from European countries, especially those imposed by the coronavirus pandemic.
President Vučić and Ambassador Bergant stated that Serbia and Slovenia cooperated well during the pandemic, especially enabling the transit of people and the movement of goods between them.
President Vučić thanked for Slovenia's support for the European path of Serbia, which is also realised through professional and technical assistance in specific negotiation chapters. Ambassador Bergant said that Slovenia would continue with that support and that enlargement would be among the priorities of the presidency over the European Union in the second half of next year.
