"The Morava Corridor is very important for us because it connects the East with the West. This will be the first, most modern digital highway. A large number of people live in this area and they will get new opportunities," said President Vučić and announced that the entire 112-kilometre highway from Pojate to Preljina will be completed in three years.

"I believe that by the end of the year, i.e. by January 2022, we will have a completed highway from Pojate to Kruševac, to the town of Makrešane. People want roads and factories, and this will bring new investors. This is a great and good thing for Serbia," he said and commended the contractor, the Turkish-American consortium Bechtel-Enka.

President Vučić also announced that works on the construction of the highway to Kraljevo, sector 3 from Adrane to Mrčajevci, will commence in a month.

The ambassadors of the USA and Great Britain, Anthony Godfrey and Sian MacLeod, expressed satisfaction with the progress of the works on the Morava Corridor, despite the pandemic, and estimated that thanks to that investment, the Serbian economy will be even stronger.

"Serbia's economy was strong at the beginning of the pandemic, and it will be strong after it thanks to the wise investments of the Serbian government in the future of the country," said Ambassador Godfrey, adding that investing in highways that boost the economy will help Serbia become an important factor in the Balkans and to connect more than half a million people in Serbia.

US Ambassador Godfrey pointed out that he was proud of the cooperation with the Government of Serbia and thanked the state leadership of Serbia for providing vaccines for all employees of the company Bechtel, which runs that project.

"I will commit to monitoring the work on the project until it is finished, and then I will be proud of the partnership with Serbia in its economic development, and I will go for a drive on the highway," Godfrey said, adding that after that everyone will have the opportunity to follow, as he said, economic growth and prosperity of this region and this country.

The British Ambassador MacLeod pointed out that she is satisfied that she can see the progress of the project, and added that she was very pleased that Britain supported the development of infrastructure in Serbia.

"It is extremely important that such projects are built with high standards, including environmental ones. I am glad that we can help," MacLeod said.

The Morava Corridor will connect three districts - Rasina, Raška and Morava - with Corridors 10 and 11. It will connect all major cities in central Serbia between Pojate and Čačak - Kruševac, Kraljevo, Trstenik and Vrnjačka Banja. During the construction of the corridor, the flow of the South Morava and its tributaries in the length of 68 kilometres will be regulated.

The Morava corridor consists of three sections: Pojate - Kruševac in the length of 27.83 kilometres; Kruševac - Adrani in the length of 53.88 kilometres; and Adrani - Mrčajevci - Preljina in the length of 30.66 kilometres.
