Meeting with the Ambassador of the Republic of Italy

President of the Republic of Serbia Aleksandar Vučić met today with the Ambassador of the Republic of Italy, Carlo Lo Cascio, with whom he agreed that last week's visit of Serbian Foreign Minister Nikola Selaković to Rome confirmed the closeness of the two countries and a high degree of mutual understanding.

President Vučić and Ambassador Lo Cascio expressed hope that the epidemiological situation will enable the fourth joint session of governments to be held this year because it would give a strong impetus to comprehensive cooperation between the two countries.

In this regard, the Italian Ambassador congratulated the Serbian authorities on the excellent results in the vaccination that gets recognition around the world. Ambassador Lo Cascio pointed out the solidarity of our country with the region as an example of the contribution to stability in the Western Balkans and reiterated Italy's gratitude for the medical assistance that Serbia provided in the most difficult moments.

President Vučić said that Serbia's solidarity with the region is a reflection of its responsibility and desire for cooperation to be the basis for progress in the Western Balkans. He pointed out that Italy is among the most important partners of Serbia, both bilaterally and in the implementation of regional policy. President Vučić expressed gratitude for Italy's support for Serbia's European path.

Ambassador Lo Cascio confirmed that Italy is an advocate of Serbia's accession to the European Union and that it is ready to help implement the reforms necessary for European integration. In this regard, the two interlocutors discussed the need to accelerate work on reforms in the area of rule of law and media.

The dialogue between Belgrade and Priština was also discussed at the meeting, with President Vučić emphasising that Serbia is ready for dialogue and compromise as a way of resolving open issues.
