Meeting with the President of the National Assembly of Angola

President of the Republic of Serbia Aleksandar Vučić met with the President of the National Assembly of the Republic of Angola Fernando da Piedade Dias dos Santos and thanked him for his country's steady position not recognize so-called Kosovo in spite of the pressures. "In the same way, Serbia will uphold the territorial integrity and sovereignty of Angola, whose libertarian spirit we value," President Vučić said.

President Vučić added that he remembers with pleasure his visit to Angola in 2013 when he got convinced in the solidity of our long-standing friendship which dates from the time of former Yugoslavia and membership in the Non-Aligned Movement. He recalled that in honour of that friendship, one street in Belgrade bears the name of Agostinho Neto, the first President of independent Angola.

President Vučić emphasised that Serbia will maintain ties with friendly countries like Angola and develop cooperation in the areas where there are real opportunities and mutual interest, hoping that, above all, economic cooperation will be on the rise as strengthening of cooperation with African countries remains to be one of the foreign policy priorities of our country.

The President of the Angolan Parliament delivered a letter from President Lourenço which conveys to President Vučić the best wishes for good health and prosperity of the Serbian people. "The interest of the Government of Angola is to permanently strengthen the excellent relations of friendship and cooperation between our countries," states the letter of the President of Angola.

President Vučić asked the President of the Parliament dos Santos to convey an invitation to President Lourenço to visit Serbia.

The two interlocutors agreed that a more frequent exchange of official visits would help in bringing the peoples of Serbia and Angola closer and in the strengthening of cooperation, for which there are many untapped opportunities especially in the fields of agriculture, mechanical engineering and construction, including military cooperation. They stressed that it is necessary to improve the contractual-legal regulations.
