President meets the Chief Prosecutor of the International Residual Mechanism for Criminal Tribunals

President of the Republic of Serbia Aleksandar Vučić met today with the Chief Prosecutor of the International Residual Mechanism for Criminal Tribunals, to discuss cooperation between the Mechanism and Serbia, regional judicial cooperation in war crimes proceedings and implementation of the national strategy for war crimes punishment.

President Vučić assessed that Serbia’s cooperation with the Office of the Prosecutor of International Residual Mechanism for Criminal Tribunals is satisfactory. He talked with Chief Prosecutor Brammertz about the possibilities for improving regional cooperation when it comes to indictments for war crimes, to contribute to reconciliation in the region in this way as well, twenty-six years after the war.

Both the President and the Chief Prosecutor agreed that one of the steps in that direction would be the transparent exchange of all war crimes indictments and information about investigations between Bosnia and Herzegovina and Serbia. The President confirmed that Serbia is ready to participate in that process, and expressed his desire to see the Chief Prosecutor facilitate it.
