President Vučić meets the Ambassador of the Republic of France

President of the Republic of Serbia Aleksandar Vučić met today with the Ambassador of the Republic of France Jean-Louis Falconi to discuss bilateral relations as well as the future of the European Union enlargement policy after the presentation of the French proposal for change in the accession process methodology.

President Vučić expressed his gratitude to President Macron for the hospitality during the last-week visit to Paris and for the opportunity to resume the talks about the strengthening of political dialogue and economic cooperation launched during the official visit of the French President to Serbia in July this year. He said that good relations with France remain to be of utmost importance for Serbia considering its global reputation.

President Vučić also thanked Ambassador Falconi for the initiative to clarify the French idea on reformation of the European Union accession process, given that the EU membership is the priority of the foreign policy of our country. „We trust President Macron and his political assessments, but at the same time - it is very important for us to obtain a clear answer as to what will happen with the European integrations of Serbia and what it is that we can count on once we meet certain criteria", said President Vučić.

Ambassador Falconi said that the proposal of President Macron is comprehensive and aimed at bringing the European Union into the condition of sound functioning with more member states, as the position of France is clear - the objective of the accession process is full membership for the candidates which implement all the necessary reforms. He pointed out that for Serbia, irrespective of the possible shift in the methodology, the previous progress on the European path has to be taken into consideration. He also emphasised that the French proposal will have to wait for the new European Commission because - to become viable - it must get accorded with the member states and the European institutions.

The two interlocutors also tackled the realisation of concrete joint projects, especially in the area of infrastructure.
