President Vučić meets the Chairman of the Committee on Foreign Affairs of the European Parliament, David McAllister

The President of the Republic of Serbia, Aleksandar Vučić, met today with the Chairman of the Committee on Foreign Affairs of the European Parliament, David McAllister, to discuss European integration, the situation in the region and reform processes in Serbia.

President Vučić congratulated President McAllister on his re-election as a Member of the European Parliament and Chairman of the Committee on Foreign Affairs.
 
During the meeting, the two interlocutors stated that Serbia was implementing very successful economic reforms, and that the progress in the sphere of economy was the clearest.
 
President Vučić emphasized that Serbia will continue to implement internal reforms in line with the assessments and recommendations of the EU institutions, primarily from the European Commission Report, but also from the European Parliament Resolution on Serbia's progress, particularly in the area of rule of law. He said that Serbia welcomed the agreement of the member states on the holders of the most important positions in the EU and expressed hope that the EU institutions, as well as the new members, would continue to support Serbia's enlargement policy and European path.
 
President Vučić pointed out that Serbia firmly supports the EU facilitated dialogue on normalisation of relations with Priština, but that the continuation of the dialogue will be possible only after the abolishment of the imposed taxes.
 
President Vučić and Chair McAllister also tackled the upcoming elections. Mr McAllister gave a positive assessment of the advancement in the functioning of the parliament upon accepting the EC remarks and added that it is necessary to work on the reforms of the electoral laws. In that respect, President Vučić said that Serbia was ready to adopt the suggestions regarding the improvements in the electoral process.
 
„As for the functioning of the Parliament, there was room for improvement in certain aspects and therefore the recommendations were adopted. The media strategy draft which was prepared in a very transparent and inclusive manner is forwarded on the European Commission for opinion. This document will ensure the conditions for the continuation of reforms in the field of media and enhancement of freedom of expression", added President Vučić.
Chairman McAllister also welcomed the new infrastructure projects and pointed our that they affect the overall economic progress of the country.
