President Vučić meets the Special Representative of the UN Secretary-General and Head of UNMIK
President of the Republic of Serbia Aleksandar Vučić talked today with the Special Representative of the United Nations Secretary-General and Head of the UN Mission in Kosovo and Metohija, Zahir Tanin. They discussed the situation in Kosovo and Metohija with regard to the preparation of the UN Secretary-General's report concerning the work of UNMIK to be presented to the Security Council in October.
The two interlocutors also tackled the upcoming elections in Kosovo and Metohija. President Vučić expressed his expectation that the international representatives will provide their assistance so that the elections can be conducted peacefully and that Serbs will be able to exercise the right to freely elect their representatives who will protect their interests.
President Vučić thanked the Special Representative Tanin for consistent efforts of UNMIK to observe the Resolution 1244.
President Vučić emphasised that the Security Council sessions addressing the work of UNMIK are important for Serbia as they maintain the continuity in considering of the Kosovo and Metohija issue as well as because of regular information process about the political and security situation which remains far away from peaceful and stabile appended by frequent tensions and incidents. "The presence of the UN i.e. of UNMIK and other international missions in Kosovo and Metohija is more than necessary as a guarantee of safety for the Serbian people", said President Vučić.
