Telephone talk with the Chancellor of the Federal Republic of Germany

President of the Republic of Serbia Aleksandar Vučić discussed today the bilateral relations and the situation in the region in a telephone conversation with Chancellor of the Federal Republic of Germany Angela Merkel.

In a long and friendly conversation, President Vučić and Chancellor Merkel expressed satisfaction with the continued progress of political dialogue and economic cooperation between Serbia and Germany. President Vučić pointed out that German companies operating in our country employ more than 60,000 workers and make a significant contribution to the economic development of Serbia, as well as to our country's reputation as a good place for investments.

President Vučić thanked Chancellor Merkel for the continued support of Germany to the Eurointegrations of Serbia, especially given the German EU presidency in the second half of next year. At the same time, he expressed the need for a clear EU enlargement plan and a membership timeframe, as the process of European integrations of the Western Balkans is important for peace and stability in the region. He stressed that Serbia will continue to promote the policy of peace and cooperation with the same goal - regional stability.

President Vučić conveyed to the German Chancellor the impressions of the recent meeting in Paris and the possibilities for continuation of the dialogue between Belgrade and Priština and, in this respect, pointed out that it would be important for Germany and Europe to persevere in their position that it is necessary for the Priština authorities to abolish the taxes on goods from central Serbia so that the dialogue could continue. President Vučić emphasised that Serbia is fully committed to the EU-facilitated dialogue aimed at ensuring stability in the region by reaching a compromise and mutually acceptable solution.

Chancellor Merkel wished President Vučić good health and invited him to visit Berlin in January, which the President of Serbia gladly accepted.
