President Vučić meets the Chairwoman of the Federation Council of the Russian Federation Federal Assembly

President of the Republic of Serbia Aleksandar Vučić met earlier today with the Chairwoman of the Federation Council of the Russian Federation Assembly Valentina Matviyenko and said he is sincerely looking forward to the meeting with the President of the Russian Federation Vladimir Putin in December.

„I agreed with the President of Russia Vladimir Putin to meet him in December and I am looking forward to that meeting very much. I expect the visit of Prime Minister Medvedev soon to jointly celebrate the liberation of Belgrade and Serbia. I thank you for your personal efforts aimed at the closest possible relations with Serbia. I hope you will be visiting us even more often in the future", said President Vučić.

He added that the political and economic relations between Serbia and Russia are very good and iterated his gratitude to Valentina Matviyenko and the President of Russia for the support in preservation of the territorial integrity of our country.

"Our trade exchange is on the rise, our economic relations are excellent, and the most important is the steadfast and consistent position of Russia with respect to the preservation of the territorial integrity and sovereignty of Serbia. Thank you and President Putin for that support. Our political relations are very sound and I think that your visit strengthens both the political and economic relations", said the President.

President Vučić forewarned about the very grave development of events in Kosovo and Metohija.

"I am very concerned about the situation in Kosovo and Metohija, especially regarding the attempt of the Albanians to render a decision on abolishment of the Serb List", said President Vučić.

He emphasised that the Serb List is a party that won 96 per cent of votes of the Kosovo-Metohija Serbs and that it had the support of Belgrade.

President Vučić indicated that this will lead to catastrophic consequences for the relations between Serbs and Albanians.

In today's talks with the President of Serbia Aleksandar Vučić, the Chairwoman of the Federation Council of the Russian Federation Assembly Valentina Matviyenko highlighted the President's address at the opening of the Inter-Parliamentary Union Assembly and his words that Serbia is an independent and sovereign country. She underlined that not everyone has such a privilege as Serbia.

Matviyenko, who heads the Russian delegation at the IPU Assembly, expressed her gratitude to President Vučić for a very successful organisation of such a large event as the Inter-Parliamentary Union Assembly, because all the participants - who attend in a considerable number - could personally see and feel the hospitality and good intentions of the Serbian people.

She thinks that the mere fact the decision was brought to hold such an event in Serbia represents the acknowledgement of the authority of our country's Parliament.

"I wish to congratulate you for your yesterday's address. You saw the reaction of the audience when you spoke about Serbia being an independent and sovereign country which does not allow others to interfere with its internal issues. You were applauded because this question is a concern of many nowadays - many countries are under pressure and many lack that privilege to be sovereign as Serbia", said Matviyenko and President Vučić agreed.

She also conveyed to President Vučić the greetings of the Russian President Vladimir Putin.

"He told me to convey his greetings to you and that he is eagerly awaiting your meeting in December", she added.

She also said that special relations between President Vučić and President Putin remain based on mutual trust thus significantly affecting the course of the bilateral relations.

"Thanks to your efforts these relations acquired a strategic character and your personal contribution is particularly observed in the development of relations between our two countries", added Matviyenko.

She reminded that the President of the Republic of Serbia was awarded the Order of Alexander Nevsky which, she said, was not unexpected but rather followed the President's efforts in the preservation of the Serbian national interests and expanding of ties between the two countries.

She also emphasised that a particularly important event is the signing of the Agreement between Serbia and the Eurasian Economic Union to occur on the 25th of October in Moscow.

"The process of harmonisation was long, but was successfully completed" added Matviyenko and noted that the Agreement will be signed by the Prime Ministers of the two countries.
