Meeting with the Director of the Permanent Secretariat of the Transport Community

President of the Republic of Serbia Aleksandar Vučić met earlier today with the Director of the Permanent Secretariat of the Transport Community, Matej Zakonjšek, to discuss the development of the regional transport network and transport connections of the Western Balkans with the European Union, which would bring numerous benefits for citizens and companies.

Director Zakonjšek presented the priorities of the Transport Community, whose Permanent Secretariat is based in Belgrade. These priorities relate to connecting transportation infrastructure to the trans-European network, traffic safety, implementation of European legislation and standards in the field of transport. This also includes digitalisation and environmental improvement, faster flow of goods at the borders by establishing joint control, and the revival of rail and water transport.

President Vučić asked Director of Zakonjšek to help establish the Green Corridors on the Western Balkans and the European Union's borders, i.e. remove barriers for faster flow of goods following the example of the Green Corridors established between partners in the Western Balkans during the Covid-19 pandemic. He emphasised that it is essential for Serbia to implement this initiative, above all, on the borders with Croatia and Hungary, where lingering is till the longest.

President Vučić singled out the projects that would be a priority and asked for the acceleration of procedures for the Niš-Priština highway's realisation.

The agreement on the Transport Community's establishment was signed at the Berlin Process Summit in Trieste in 2017.
