Meeting with the World Bank Regional Director for Western Balkans, Europe and Central Asia

President of the Republic of Serbia Aleksandar Vučić met earlier today with the regional World Bank Director for Western Balkans, Europe and Central Asia, Linda Van Gelder.

During the exceptionally contentful talks, President Vučić and Prime Minister Ana Brnabić asked the World Bank delegation for their support as they seek to continue with even more substantial reforms and accelerated growth of the Serbian economy.

“The growth of 4% is good for the Balkan circumstances. However, Serbia wants, it is able to and has to increase the growth rate to over 6% at the annual level. To achieve that, we need the extensive help of the World Bank, especially in the area of labour productivity, financing and support to the successful domestic companies and introduction of new financial instruments to stimulate growth", said President Vučić.

Regional World Bank Director Van Gelder pointed out that Serbian reforms from 2014 yielded excellent results for Serbia. However, to join the most developed European countries, Serbia will have to strengthen and accelerate the process of reforms in various spheres of social life. This particularly refers to the situation in public enterprises, local self-governments, but also in finding a new methodology for the financing of new, successful and unencumbered Serbian companies.

One more meeting has been arranged between the President of Serbia and the World Bank representatives to be held before the presentation of the plan "Serbia 2025" by the end of this year.
