President Vučić meets the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Guatemala

President of the Republic of Serbia Aleksandar Vučić received earlier today the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Guatemala Sandra Jovel Polanco and pointed out that we consider her country to be our genuine friend, adding that the relations between Serbia and Guatemala are entwined by mutual understanding, respect and support in the most important issues.

"The strength of our friendship also reflects in the fact that as of today one street in Belgrade will bear the name of the famous Guatemalan Nobel Prize winner Miguel Ángel Asturias, just like our Nobel Prize winner Ivo Andrić has his street in the capital of Guatemala", said President Vučić.

President Vučić thanked for the firm support of Guatemala to the territorial integrity and sovereignty of Serbia which reflects in the non-recognition of the unilaterally declared independence of Kosovo as well as for its active support in international organisations regarding this issue.

Minister Jovel Polanco conveyed the greetings of the current President of Guatemala Jimmy Morales as well as the greetings of the elected President Giammattei Falla, and added that her country will not change its position with respect to the unilateral declaration of Kosovo independence as Guatemala is a friend to its friends and an ally to its allies.

The two interlocutors have expressed their expectations that the documents to be signed during this visit will bring the two countries closer and serve the development of diverse cooperation since there are many unused opportunities not only in the sphere of economy but also in the areas of agriculture, culture and education.

President Vučić said that he strongly supports the development of cultural and educational cooperation including the exchange of students, experts and researchers as in that manner the people can better understand each other and get closer to each other. In that context, the President noted a possibility of scholarships for students from Guatemala within the "World in Serbia" programme.
